Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2OO7 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying Ceremony at Arlington National Ceremony begun by Maine business man Morrill Worcester in 1992.

WWA's mission Remember, Honor, Teach - is carried out in part by Coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington, as well as at Veteran's cemeteries and other locations in all 5O states and beyond. There are over l,200 participating locations.

Every year since 2008, Congress proclaims a date in December as National Wreaths Across America Day. This year, it will be held on Saturday, December 14. 2019.

The Westerlo Rural Cemetery will be a Wreath Across America location this year. There are 11O veterans buried in the Westerlo Rural Cemetery.

The cost to sponsor a Wreath is $15.00.

Hilltowns Community Resource Center

The Hilltowns Community Resource Center, a program of Catholic Charities Tri-County Services is located in the town of Westerlo, NY and has served the communities of Berne, Knox, Westerlo, and Rensselaerville since 1981. We currently serve over 600 individuals in the Hilltowns.

The Hilltowns Community Resource Center provides assistance to low-income individuals with a variety of programs and special projects:

  • Information, referral and advocacy
  • Food Pantry, including a mobile pantry
  • Holiday Assistance: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Back-to-School Project: School clothing and supplies
  • Emergency assistance to individuals and families experiencing a crisis
  • Satellite office for Albany County Food Stamps in-take

Amidst the challenges our world is facing today, Catholic Charities meets people where they are. Their struggles are very real and hunger is most often a symptom of a larger issue in their life such as, no transportation to get to work, a past due heating bill, or needing back-to-school clothes for growing children. Our goal is to see that no person goes hungry with a larger hope to strengthen their lives and our communities.

lunchLunch is available every Monday, Tuesday & Friday at noon. Reservations needed in advance. Call Karen Stark at 518-937-5963. (You can come for 1, 2 or all 3 days each week)

The doors will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Program provided by Helderberg Senior Services Inc., Sponsored by Albany County Department for Aging, meals provided by the Life Living Center.
